DJ Thumpa’s, aka Thomas Robertson, passion for music began at a young age after circumstances found him immersing himself in music and the realisation that he could put two songs together and have them blend to make it sound like one continuous song. This lead to him building a very basic setup from scratch, nothing fancy, but this gave him the ability to practice every day and realise the potential of the DJ craft.
After many years went by, he finally was able to go out to a club and experience the nightlife scene for himself. He went to many clubs in the Brisbane and Ipswich areas and observed a variety of DJ’s and saw how they mixed, what songs they chose, the crowd reactions, etc. This was truly when he realised that he could make a career out of doing this.
It was not long until he found out about a DJ course that was being offered by one of the DJ’s at a club in Ipswich that he regularly went to. This DJ would end up becoming his mentor and guide to all things DJ. DJ Thumpa completed the course and passed with flying colours.
A few months later, after finding and marrying the love of his life, he landed a full-time residency with his partner, Victoria (aka DJ Vypa) at Club City in Ipswich (now known as Cocktails). This residency had lasted for about a year before he decided he wanted to travel around Australia with his family.
He and his family settled in Melbourne where he started to work as a mobile DJ for Halogen DJ’s. The demand for DJ Thumpa increased month after month as his passion and dedication showed and was made very obvious by all he played for.
After a couple of years, he found himself back in Ipswich with his family and started working at various clubs in the Valley like “Family” and “The Beat.” He was very welcomed by all the other DJ’s as they could see the passion and drive he had for his music.
A few years later he moved back to QLD with his family and settled in Dalby QLD. He quickly found work as the resident DJ at the Mirage nightclub where he DJ’ed as well as ran the nightclub. A change of management of the venue then resulted in the nightclub closing so accommodation could be put upstairs.
DJ Thumpa has played more recently at venues in Goondiwindi and Ipswich. He also has made appearances at The Marsden, the Great Western Hotel as a support act for Icehouse and as a resident DJ at the Q BAR Yeppoon with DJ Vypa.
DJ Thumpa passion, love, ability to read a crowd and respect for his craft is what sets him apart from the average DJ.
